Our First All Inclusive Caribbean Escape: A Week at Sandals Ochi in Jamaica

If you’re searching for an honest Sandals Ochi Beach Resort review, our weeklong stay at this all-inclusive resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica might help you decide if it’s worth the trip. We booked a butler-level room and spent seven days exploring everything the resort and surrounding area had to offer from scuba diving in the Caribbean to climbing Dunn’s River Falls.

Located in beautiful Ocho Rios, Sandals Ochi Beach Resort is one of the largest all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica and offers dozens of restaurants, pools, and excursions. During our stay we experienced butler service, multiple dining spots, the hidden Rabbit Hole speakeasy, and some of Jamaica’s most famous adventures.

Here’s what a full week at Sandals Ochi is really like.

Staying in a Butler Room at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort

From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn’t going to be an ordinary resort stay. Our butler greeted us, escorted us through check-in, and gave us a quick orientation of the property with a specialty cocktail in hand. With their help, daily dinner reservations, activity scheduling, and even beach chair setups were handled effortlessly throughout the week.

Morning coffee on the balcony? Arranged.
A indulgent dessert after nightly entertainment? Already waiting.

A refreshing bubble bath after a long day of climbing Dunn River Falls and it was still warm when we got in the room, super romantic.

The butler service turned what could have been a busy activity-filled vacation into something surprisingly relaxing.

Scuba Diving in Ocho Rios Jamaica

One of the biggest highlights of the week was scuba diving with the resort’s dive team. The waters off Ocho Rios are warm, clear, and full of marine life. Coral gardens, colorful fish, and sea cucumber made our dive feel like an underwater safari.

For anyone considering Sandals for diving, it’s worth noting that certified divers can enjoy multiple dives during their stay an incredible perk if you love the ocean. Sandals will also certify you onsite, if you’re new and want to give it a try free of charge. Fill out a request and I can tell you more about this process.

Climbing Dunn’s River Falls

No trip to Ocho Rios would be complete without visiting the famous Dunn’s River Falls. The experience is part hike, part adventure, and part natural water park.

Climbing the terraced waterfall alongside cool rushing water was both refreshing and surprisingly fun. Guides helped lead the way up the rocks while groups formed human chains to steady each other. By the time we reached the top, we were soaked, laughing, and completely energized.

Horseback Riding and ATV Adventures In Jamaica

To balance out the beach time, we booked an excursion that combined horseback riding with ATV trails through Jamaica’s countryside.

Riding along coastal paths with ocean views felt almost cinematic. The ATV portion added a dose of adrenaline as we tore through muddy trails and jungle paths. It was the perfect mix of scenic and adventurous.

Poolside Days and Caribbean Sunsets

Not every moment was about excursions. Some of our favorite memories came from doing absolutely nothing.

Afternoons drifted by at the pool with frozen drinks, reggae music floating in the background, and the occasional swim to cool off. The pace of island life has a way of slowing everything down in the best possible way.

Best Restaurants at Sandals Ochi

One of the most impressive aspects of Sandals Ochi is the variety of restaurants across the property.

We made it a mission to try as many as possible during the week.

***PRO TIP: Butlers can get dinner reservations, regular guests can’t!!!

Two stood out above the rest:

The over-water seafood restaurant — dining with the sound of waves beneath you while watching the sunset is hard to beat. Fresh seafood and ocean views made this our most memorable dinner. Not to mention, their refreshing signature cocktail had us coming back for drinks for the rest of the trip.

The French restaurant — elegant, intimate, and a surprising culinary highlight in the Caribbean. We took the opportunity here to try Escargot for the first time. These snails are typically cooked in a rich sauce made from garlic, butter and parsley; enhancing their flavor and making them a sought after dish in gourmet dining making it feel like a night in Paris just with palm trees outsides.

Discovering the Hidden Rabbit Hole Speakeasy

And then there was the secret.

Tucked away on the property is a hidden speakeasy known as The Rabbit Hole, a prohibition-style bar that feels worlds away from the tropical resort atmosphere outside.

Dim lighting, craft cocktails, vintage décor, and live music created one of the most unique nightlife experiences we’ve ever stumbled upon at an all-inclusive resort.

***PRO TIP: It was our butler that gave us the secret password to enter every night.

Is Sandals Ochi Worth It? Our Final Thoughts

Our first All-Inclusive trip, turned out to be a game changer in travel. From choosing the resort to mapping out excursions, and the butler touch helped streamline our stay so we could focus on the experience itself.

Between scuba diving in turquoise waters, climbing Dunn’s River Falls, horseback riding along the coast, and relaxing poolside with incredible food and service, our week at Sandals Ochi delivered the perfect balance of adventure and nervous system relaxation we desperately needed.

Jamaica has a rhythm all its own and for one unforgettable week, we got to live in it.

This was our first All-Inclusive vacation; it definitely won’t be our last.

***PRO TIP: Buy the photos, you wont regret them 😉

Some Tips Before You Go

  • Transport: The resort is about a 1-hour 15-minute drive from the main airport; consider private transfers for comfort.
  • Room choice: If you value direct beach access or a swim-up pool, target a higher category.
  • Beach conditions: While stunning, some guests note shallower water and occasional sea-weed depending on season and tide. Plan for varied beach experiences.
  • Booking restaurants: For the à la carte options, consider reserving early to secure prime dining times.
  • Relaxation vs activity: If you prefer a quieter week, ask for a room away from the main pool/party zones; if you like activity and nightlife, pick closer to the energy.

Final Word

Sandals Negril offers a perfect blend of barefoot elegance, resort luxury, and that signature Caribbean sunset-moment you’ll never forget. Whether you’re floating in a swim-up suite’s pool, strolling hand-in-hand on Seven Mile Beach at dusk, or diving beneath the water to explore vibrant reefs, this resort delivers a memorable romantic escape.
